Syrian families flee civil war, warily make new lives in Kansas City

Nineteen families who fled Mideast violence now call Kansas City home, feeling lucky to be part of a controversial U.S. effort this past year to bring in 10,000 Syrian refugees. Many have benefited from a vigorous local assistance effort, though they’re learning the hardships of merging into America.
