Ex-bomb-sniffing dog, KC Army handler receive award

A former soldier from Kansas City and his retired bomb-sniffing dog have received awards from the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation. Logan Ray Black said he was "humbled, thankful and truly honored" when he accepted the Philip Pistilli Silver Veteran's Medal at a luncheon Wednesday on the 129th birthday of President Truman. His dog, Diego, was awarded a Special Service Award.

A judge decides when it’s one bark too many

When Richard Stevens of Kansas City got fed up with what he calls “continual barking” from his neighbor’s dog, he took his neighbor to municipal court. But the court found the neighbor not guilty of allowing excessive animal noise. Stevens was frustrated with the decision because he thinks the dog was violating the city ordinance and doesn’t know how he could have made his case better.

Northland woman is again caught hoarding cats

Delores A. Metcalf, 58, previously had faced neglect charges and had been ordered not to own, keep or harbor any animals. According to court records, animal control officers visited her home in the 3700 block of North Bales Avenue on April 8 and found 14 cats inside.
