Tuesday in the minors: Aaron Brooks is dealing, Christian Colon stays hot

Aaron Brooks scattered five hits over eight shutout innings on Tuesday night and High-A Wilmington held on for a 4-3 victory against Lynchburg.

Robinson Yambati relieved in the ninth inning and gave up all three runs, although he was hurt by an error. The Hillcats scored twice and had runners on second and third with one out, but Yambati got a flyout (which scored a run) and a groundout to close out the victory.

Wilmington opened the scoring with two in the fourth. Daniel Mateo led off with a single, and Lane Adams followed with a walk. Cheslor Cuthbert had an RBI double and Kenny Diekroeger singled home the other run.

Monday in the minors: Starling returns, has two hits

Center fielder Bubba Starling returned to Low-A Lexington on Monday and had two hits as the Legends beat Ashville 3-1.

Starling, who doubled in the fourth and had an RBI single in the seventh, last played on May 12 before leaving for Kansas City to have his vision checked out. According to the Legends, Starling did indeed have Lasik surgery. Starling extended his hitting streak to five games.

Ashville was held to two hits, both coming off starter Miguel Almonte. In 5 2/3 innings, Almonte walked four but struck out eight and allowed one run. Chas Byrne (two hitless innings) and Clayton Schulz (1 1/3 hitless innings) completed the victory.

Sunday in the minors: Selman, relievers help Blue Rocks win

Left-hander Sam Selman and three relievers combined on a seven-hitter Sunday as High-A Wilmington beat Myrtle Beach 2-1.

Selman, who was the Royals’ second-round pick in last year’s draft, gave up three hits and one run in five innings, while striking out six. According to Wilmington, Selman had allowed the most walks in the Carolina League, but he issued just one on Sunday.

Justin Trapp’s solo homer in the third inning broke the 1-1 tie and was the difference.

Saturday in the minors: Dwyer roughed up as Omaha falls

Left-hander Chris Dwyer gave up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits over six innings Saturday night as Class AAA Omaha lost 9-4 at home to Las Vegas.

Dwyer struck out six and walked two. He has a 3.10 ERA on the year.

George Sherrill had another bumping outing, giving up two runs on three hits in one inning.
