SM East tops Olathe Northwest on final play

Rain causes BV Northwest to lose home game

By the 6:30 p.m. kickoff time on Thursday, BV Northwest athletic director Steve Harms decided to postpone the game. The only decision left was rescheduling, which came down to Saturday at the District Activity Center or tonight at 7 p.m. Friday at Bishop Miege. Even though the Huskies are giving up their home site, Blue Valley Northwest coach Mike Zegunis said it was best for his team to play Friday.

Behind Maloney, SM West batters Olathe South

Versatile Shawnee Mission West senior Andre Maloney was a receiver Friday. He ran it out of the Vikings’ version of the wildcat formation. He returned a punt with scintillating results. Maloney’s performance and a stingy, ball-hawking defense paved the way for SM West’s 23-8 victory over Olathe South.

Olathe North tops rival Olathe East 26-23 in seesaw game

After his team fell behind with less than eight minutes to play, Olathe North junior quarterback Cole Murphy led the Eagles to a 26-23 season-opening victory over rival Olathe East. Murphy played for the first time since surgery to repair a torn labrum and dislocated shoulder 11 months ago.
