Everyone knows the Chiefs were a bad, bad football team in 2008. Two wins. It was clearly the worst football team in Chiefs history.
COLUMBIA | What happens when you lose the face of your franchise? Missouri rode quarterback Chase Daniel to 22 victories in his final two years. Mizzou was ranked No. 1 heading into the 2007 Big 12 championship game. And the Tigers got back to that game in Daniel’s senior season as well — although they were on the losing end both times against Oklahoma.
The players on the Gardner Edgerton fourth-grade football team, despite looking adorable, are trying their best to act like the tough, mean, big-boy Blazers. They dress just like their high school counterparts and run the same plays. They are around them so much that the boys invite the big kids to their birthday parties. This is a close community that’s growing, but it’s still small enough for a 9-year-old boy to live next door to his hero. So on an ideal Midwestern Saturday morning — Grant Wood couldn’t have painted one better — about 100 moms and dads cheer from the stands, but the baby Blazers creep close to the end zone pylon, kneeling to get the best view of the varsity scrimmage.
