Kansas notes: Chalmers is Most Outstanding Player

    Chalmers is Most Outstanding Player

KU’s Mario Chalmers became the fifth Jayhawk to be selected Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four. Clyde Lovellette (1952), B.H. Born (1953), Wilt Chamberlain (1957) and Danny Manning (1988) were the others. Also making this year’s all-Final Four tournament team were Darrell Arthur and Brandon Rush of Kansas, and Chris Douglas-Roberts and Derrick Rose of Memphis.

The Star has learned that a report regarding Rush and an upcoming court date relating to a child-support case was false.

The report was published Saturday and stated that Rush had a hearing scheduled for May 13 in Kansas City. A spokesman for the Jackson County prosecutor’s office told The Star on Monday that the case was dismissed by the court without prejudice on March 19.

Dismissed without prejudice means a case is dismissed, but the plaintiff is allowed to bring a new suit on the same claim.

•Monday marked the seventh time the NCAA title game was decided in overtime. The last time was in 1997, when Arizona beat Kentucky.

•This marks the second consecutive season that a school has won a BCS bowl game and the national title in basketball. Florida won the NCAA title in football and men’s basketball during the 2006-07 school year.

•KU finished with a 37-3 record, which is not only a school record for victories but also the most triumphs by an NCAA champion. Memphis, 38-2, set the record for wins in a season.

•Greatest comeback in NCAA Tournament history? You decide. KU trailed by nine with 2:12 left. The largest second-half lead overcome to win a title was Kentucky over Utah in 1998. The Wildcats trailed by 10 at halftime.
