Get the chores done early. College football is on the clock.
From the brunch kickoff times of two Big 12 games, including 16th-ranked Kansas at Iowa State, through Kansas State’s midafternoon skirmish with No. 7 Texas Tech and into the sun-setter at Arrowhead Stadium between Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State, the day belongs to the college game.
So does the night. No. 4 Missouri at Nebraska gets ESPN treatment at 8 p.m.
The first weekend of Big 12 action sends five of its six ranked teams on the road, and all of those games can be found with a remote.
On the line besides rankings: The Tigers haven’t won in Lincoln since 1978, trying to snap a 15-game losing streak there.
And it’s not a bad occasion for Mizzou quarterback Chase Daniel to add some Heisman credentials.
Kansas State’s defense has been shredded in its last two outings and now faces one of the nation’s most dangerous spread offensive teams. But the Wildcats also move the ball. Expect a shootout.
The Jayhawks started growing as a league power when they started winning on the road. A triumph at Iowa State two years ago ended a seven-game Big 12 road skid for Kansas, which won all its Big 12 road games last season.
If the favorites hold serve today, next weekend will be even better. MU plays host to Oklahoma State, and there is the annual Texas-Oklahoma showdown.
No. 7 Texas Tech at K-State 2:30 p.m. in Manhattan, Kan. (Chs. 2, 9)
No. 4 Missouri at Nebraska 8 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb. (ESPN)
Pittsburg State vs. Northwest Missouri State 5 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium
