Light rail route, construction details

More News

THE ROUTE

Remaining questions:

Grand Boulevard, Main, Walnut, Oak and Wyandotte streets through downtown are being examined. Grand is considered shortest, most direct route but ran into opposition because it might affect pedestrian access to Power & Light District.

Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Volker Boulevard are both considered for eastern leg of the route from the Plaza to Watkins Parkway.

CONSTRUCTION

Could start late 2012 or 2013; depends on timing of federal funding decisions and other engineering issues.

Construction could take 3 or 3 1/2 years, but could be shorter.

Work may be done in segments, several blocks at a time, to alleviate disruptions.

No specific plan yet to ease construction problems, but a trouble-shooter could deal with complaints and financial assistance could be offered to help small business offset any losses caused by work.
