What if we all disappeared tomorrow? It’s an intriguing notion that has been the subject of man films – Will Smith’s “I Am Legend,” “Planet of the Apes” – and countless books – Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road,” Stephen King’s “The Stand,” among others.

Author Alan Weisman has created a buzz with his speculative nonfiction book “The World Without Us.” He examines how the world would change if humanity simply … disappeared.

All without a single reference to zombies.

We applied Weisman’s concept to Kansas City and found a crumbling Paseo Bridge, forest overtaking downtown and a haven for birds at Kauffman Stadium.
