The Star’s big-class top five

NO. 1 OLATHE NORTH 49, at BLUE VALLEY 35: Victor Simmons scored four touchdowns for Olathe North, and James Franklin added two.

NO. 2 FORT OSAGE 27, at WINNETONKA 6: After Winnetonka’s Darrell Jobe scored the game’s first touchdown, Fort Osage scored the next four, including a 79-yard fumble return by Jesse Peery.

At NO. 3 GARDNER EDGERTON 52, PITTSBURG 12: Ryan Weber scored Gardner’s first two touchdowns, Brett Jensen the next three and Justice Berry the two after that.

At NO. 4 ROCKHURST 41, LEE’S SUMMIT 20: Rockhurst’s Noah Pearl rushed for 141 yards, but it was teammate Sal Belfonte who scored four touchdowns.

NO. 1 STALEY 44, at PLATTE COUNTY 7: Staley’s Evan Campbell rushed 12 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a 65-yard touchdown pass.

At NO. 2 HARRISONVILLE 34, SEDALIA SMITH-COTTON 7: In a battle between the No. 5 (Smith-Cotton) and No. 6 (Harrisonville) teams in the Missouri Class 4 state rankings, it was Harrisonville’s Terry Scott who scored two touchdowns.

At NO. 3 KEARNEY 74, SJ LAFAYETTE 0: Kearney won its district opener and improved to 6-2.

NO. 4 BISHOP MIEGE 41, at SPRING HILL 7: Bobby Germinder scored Miege’s first touchdown on a 30-yard fumble return, and he scored the second on a 25-yard reception.

NO. 5 ORRICK 53, at WENWORTH MILITARY 0: Logan Eubank scored three touchdowns for Orrick, which led 35-0 after one quarter.

Other highlights

At BASEHOR-LINWOOD 28, TONGANOXIE 27, 2OTs: Tonganoxie went for a two-point conversion in the second overtime, but Basehor-Linwood stopped the run on the 1. It was an emotional win for Basehor-Linwood because, according to the team statistician, the head coach was not at the game because his father died of cancer Thursday night.

BLUE VALLEY WEST 15, at OLATHE SOUTH 14: A 29-yard touchdown pass from Conner Embree to DeSean Warren and Bryan O’Neil’s extra-point kick provided the winning margin for BV West.

At BONNER SPRINGS 26, HIGHLAND PARK 20: Jake Barren’s 2-yard touchdown run lifted Bonner Springs to the victory.

LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 50, at JOPLIN 34: Montereal Robinson, during one stretch of the first half, scored four consecutive touchdowns for Lee’s Summit North.

LIBERTY 35, at COLUMBIA ROCK BRIDGE 20: Liberty fell behind 14-0 and then scored five of the game’s next six touchdowns.

At OAK PARK 7, ST. JOSEPH CENTRAL 6: Oak Park trailed for most of the game, then Chase Claytor scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter, and Andrew Fishel kicked the extra point.

At O’HARA 55, LINCOLN PREP 0: O’Hara improved to 7-1, paced by Terrell Johnson’s three touchdowns.

At OLATHE NORTHWEST 49, LAWRENCE 6: Northwest scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters and was led by Cullen Phillips’ two touchdowns.

PARK HILL 35, at PARK HILL SOUTH 13: Sean Gorman opened the scoring for Park Hill with a 54-yard touchdown run.

At SM WEST 20, SM NORTHWEST 8: Cordi Pascal scored two touchdowns for SM West.

At ST. PIUS X 20, PEMBROKE HILL 6: Anthony Zicarelli scored all of the Pius touchdowns.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 21, at OTTAWA 6: Aquinas came out of the locker room at halftime and put up 14 points in the third quarter for a 21-0 lead. The Saints’ first touchdown came on a 68-yard punt return by Mike Armentrout.

WESTPORT 33, at CENTRAL 8: A 20-point third quarter propelled Westport, which got four touchdowns from Theo Johnson, including a 33-yard interception return.
