Mail call

The flaps are up, the ears

assert

A vigil stance — the nose

alert —

And while the watch

is being kept

There sounds on porch

a single step

Igniting such a frenzied

whirr

Of barking, leaping, froth

and stir!

But once the mailbox lid

is shut

Intruder leaves, which

leaves the mutt

Quite smug: The stranger

once again

Repulsed by daily dose

of din!

So lower now each ear

its flap...

It’s time again

for doggie nap.
