For those who live at the Winston Churchill Condominiums, the Plaza is not a destination, it is home. While Plaza visitors are driving around looking for parking, Churchill residents are taking a leisurely stroll from the building’s stylish lobby to their favorite restaurants and shops, a distance that is no farther than some people walk to their mail boxes, according to Rob Lacio, who markets the Churchill with Lisa Moore for Reece & Nichols Realtors.
Lacio pointed out Churchill residents have the advantage of parking that is gated, covered or in an underground garage included with the purchase price of their condo, so their cars are at home while they are spending time on the Plaza or at any one of 36 restaurants within walking distance, not to mention the gas they save.
The prime Plaza location, north of Brush Creek on 48th Street between Roanoke and Jefferson streets, is one of the reasons for the Winston Churchill’s success, according to Lacio and Moore. Seventy-five percent of the units have sold, but buyers still are able to choose from five one- or two-bedroom floor plans. And limited opportunities remain to combine units for an even larger condo, Lacio said.
He added warm weather has created renewed interest in the Winston Churchill, with home seekers stopping in for tours during the week as well as on weekends. Appointments are available for those who are unable to stop by during the regular hours, he added.
“With the warmer weather, we’ve been really busy,” Lacio said. “Lots of people are coming in, saying they realize they need to buy while the interest rates are still low. They also know that anything built in the future will cost more because of the increasing cost of materials. They know the value of purchasing at the Churchill while they can still choose finishes.”
Five new condo units are now being renovated and will soon be ready for buyers to move into, Lacio said. Or buyers may choose other units where renovation has not yet begun.
One of the benefits of selecting the Churchill, Moore said, is the chance to customize a condo. “Our optional features allow future residents to individually tailor each unit to fit their specific needs,” she said. “They can customize their unit with a variety of finishes that include granite countertops and backsplashes, custom cabinetry, hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances and much more.”
Priced from the $200,000s to more than $500,000, condominiums range from 713 to 1,146 square feet or more with combined units. Condo buyers can select from one- or two-bedroom units that offer views of the Plaza or the upscale neighborhoods south of Ward Parkway.
A rooftop clubroom features a gas fireplace, gathering space, kitchen, wall of windows with views of Brush Creek and the residential areas to the south. The adjoining outdoor terrace with its gas grill is an excellent place to enjoy a quiet meal high above Ward Parkway, Moore said.
She said buyers also appreciate the building’s other features, including the granite and glass lobby with waterfalls designed by Kansas City artist Stretch, a fitness room, climate-controlled storage, business center and updated common areas.
Buyers at the Churchill have come from the Kansas City area, as well as out of town, out of state and even out of the country, Moore said.
“About a third of our buyers are making this their second or third home, a place to live when visiting the Plaza or doing business in the Kansas City area,” she said. “Our buyers tell us we are the best value for living on the Plaza.”
The Winston Churchill is managed by Terra Management and developed in cooperation with Price Residential.
