Local designer Heather Rama recently opened a new boutique, Aubergine, where she sells her vintage couture. Her spring/summer collection of dresses is created with vintage and vintage-inspired fabrics.
Rama also redesigns vintage pieces into current wearable garments and does custom work as well.

■ GIVE CANCER A KICK
Early detection is key in the fight against cancer. Local designer Lisa Burton has started the online store Ribbon Chick to raise awareness.
After the loss of her mother to breast cancer, Burton decided to start selling products to promote breast cancer awareness. This pair of cowboy boots by Old Gringo depicts pink ribbons on the toe, top and back of the boots.
Twenty percent of proceeds from the boots are donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

■ RETRO REVISITED
Vintage images have gained popularity and are showing up on accessories and clothing.
Husband and wife team Jeanette and David Coons of Girly Girl World design handmade jewelry and accessories with a retro feel. This silver cuff is accented with blue Swarovski crystals and a glamorous image of a fashionista.
Girly Girl World also offers hand-forged sterling silver rings with interchangeable Swarovski crystals.

Handbag designers are coming up with inventive materials to create one-of-a-kind purses.
Local artisan Andrea Baker and seamstress Sheryl Crist teamed up to craft this handbag made with upholstery fabric. The tortoise handles were recycled from another bag.
