The expectant mother laid down and the sonographer applied the jelly to her stomach. The sonographer readied the machine and offered encouraging words. Then Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook, a Shawnee Republican, exclaimed, “That jelly is cold.” The sonogram took place in the Kansas Statehouse the same day that Kansans For Life rallied against abortion outside the Capitol.

Ride headed to Worlds of Fun reportedly malfunctioned twice in California

The SteelHawk, which is to open next year in the Americana section of Worlds of Fun, is being moved to Kansas City from Knott‘s Berry Farm in California, where it malfunctioned twice last year, leaving riders dangling 300 feet in the air, according to the Orange County Register.

Sprint is closing Overland Park call center, cutting about 200 jobs

Call centers in Sacramento, Calif., and Elmsford, N.Y., also are closing. A television station in Florida reported a fourth call center in Orlando, Fla., will lay off about 400 people. And in Fort Worth, Texas, according to the newspaper there, 450 jobs are being cut at that city’s call center. Overall, the paper reported, Sprint is cutting 1,550 customer service jobs, citing greater efficiencies.
