Just when I start to think that maybe we don’t really need a forum like this focused on the unique challenges women face in the work world, another ridiculous story pops up.
It dawned on me today that I have been earning a paycheck for 30 years. In early 1978 — at age 15 — I filled out my first application and accepted a job at the new Dairy Queen at Metro North Mall. I became a “DQ Girl,” pulling my hair under a kerchief and serving Peanut Butter Parfaits and other treats with a smile. I was so proud to wear that bright red plaid uniform.
