Pat Pinkney completed 20-of-29 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns, as East Carolina used a 21-point fourth quarter to defeat Tulsa, 44-17.
Darryl Freeney caught eight passes for 152 yards and a score for the Pirates (6-4, 5-1 C-USA), who became bowl eligible for the fourth straight season with the victory. Dominique Lindsay rushed for 172 yards on 31 carries. He also had a TD catch for East Carolina, which was coming off a 16-3 loss to Virginia Tech on November 5. The Pirates continued to lead the conference's East Division.
G.J. Kinne connected on 23-of-46 passes for 236 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions for the Hurricane (4-6, 2-4), who have lost five in a row. Damaris Johnson caught 14 passes for 135 yards and a TD. Ricky Johnson had a touchdown catch in defeat.
The Pirates marched right down the field with the opening possession of the game. But they had to settle for a 29-yard Ben Hartman field goal. Hartman missed a 48-yard field goal later in the frame.
East Carolina scored on three straight possessions in the second to take a comfortable lead. Freeney caught a 37-yard TD pass with 9:06 left, Lindsay caught a 12-yard touchdown pass with 4:41 to go, and Hartman made a 37-yarder with 1:17 remaining for a 20-0 margin.
Tulsa got on the board with a five-play, 59-yard drive. Ricky Johnson ended the march with a 14-yard TD catch to bring the Hurricane within 20-7 at the half.
A Kevin Fitzpatrick 51-yard field goal early in the third made it a 10-point game. On the next Hurricane possession, Kinne fumbled the football. East Carolina capitalized with a 26-yard Hartman field goal to make it 23-10 with 5:12 to go.
A 57-yard kickoff return by Damaris Johnson set Tulsa up at the ECU 21. On the third play, Damaris Johnson hauled in a nine-yard pass for a TD to cut the gap to 23-17 with four minutes left.
Tulsa made a huge mistake on its first possession of the fourth. Emanuel Davis intercepted a Kinne pass and returned it 42 yards for a score and a 30-17 lead with 12:05 to play.
The Hurricane failed to convert on a 4th-and-6 at the ECU 7 on their next drive.
Levin Neal's 57-yard interception return for a TD and Jay Ross' 51-yard fumble return for a touchdown accounted for the final margin.
