    Judge halts closing of Gordon Parks Elementary School

    Gordon Parks Elementary School can remain open at least through June. A circuit court judge on Tuesday granted a temporary stay sought by the school after state education officials voted last week to pull the school’s charter.

    Hearts open for young victims of Oklahoma tornado

    Despite the violent upheaval that Moore, Okla., endured Monday afternoon when a monstrous tornado slashed through the city, many of the people who lost much insist that their worries pale in comparison with the sadness they feel for the innocents whose young lives have come to define the town’s tragedy.

    Royals rally for 7-3 win over Astros, get back to .500

    The Royals rallied Tuesday for a 7-3 victory at Minute Maid Park by scoring all seven runs against the Astros’ bullpen and with the aid of some atrocious defense. So what? The Royals ended their four-game losing streak, pulled back to .500 at 21-21 and avoided the possibility of getting swept by the Astros.

    Missouri’s season ends with 17-inning loss to Mississippi State in SEC tournament

    In a 17-inning affair that lasted nearly five hours — the longest game in MU baseball history — the Tigers fell to Mississippi State 2-1 in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament in Hoover, Ala.

    Sprint sweetens offer for Clearwire, says it will negotiate with Dish Network

    Sprint Nextel Corp. on Tuesday opened its wallet a bit wider to gain full control of its longtime wireless network partner Clearwire Corp. and the valuable airwaves it owns. The Overland Park-based company also said Tuesday it would open its financial books for Dish Network Corp. and negotiate with the company on its buyout offer.
