VOICES 07/20/08

I’m sure poor Cindy McCain, being an heiress to money made from Anheuser-Busch products, is crying golden tears since the Missouri-based company has been sold to InBev in Belgium. Oh, wait. Did she forget to call her accountants and learn how many more millions of dollars she has now “earned” in that buyout? I bet her tears are now dry and her perfectly applied makeup is back in place.

Is there anyone more pompous than Obama? This young senator seems to assume he has the answers to all of the world’s problems, not just America’s. No one is that smart. He is not, either. Remember when Lloyd Bentsen, during the 1988 debates, told Dan Quayle, “Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.” In my view, Obama is no JFK. He is also not Moses delivering the Ten Commandments. He is a naïve young senator.

I don’t know whether it is just happenstance that no one in the Letters section of The Star writes anything complimentary about Obama or anything negative about McCain. Everything I see, every day, is something someone has written of a negative nature about the Obama campaign. Do people not write anything complimentary about Obama?

It was a pleasure to read the letter (7/13) from the Ackermans of Fort Scott, Kan. Their comments about their daily Star were so positive. Suddenly their paper is delivered only on Sundays, and they miss it. I’m sorry. Like them, I enjoy reading and sharing the news with family and friends. The Star is an inexpensive form of entertainment, and now I feel that it is a blessing.
