Memo to Andrew Reiz (7/14, Letters, “Obama: The new Jimmy Carter?”): Had Jimmy Carter blown Iran into the stone age the world economy would have been grossly affected, and the American hostages would not have returned home. What is it? Too many John Wayne movies? This view of history is contrary to what this country is all about.

Steve Blasing and Marje Cochren (7/12, Letters) maintain there is only one narrow path to salvation. But they are confusing the path to God with the path to Christianity. The two have very little in common.

Although a liberal Democrat, I was deeply saddened by the recent death of Tony Snow, who was, at one time, press secretary to President Bush. He was admired and respected by all the journalists who worked with him and the press corps who covered the White House.

What a pathetic article from The Associated Press about the death of Tony Snow (7/13, A-14). They had to throw in a dig that he was not always in command of the facts. Whenever I listened to press conferences, if he didn’t know the answer he said he would find out and get back to them, which he did.
