Hillary Clinton’s campaign
God is shaking her head and finger, too. Women have a woman running for president, yet we are writing letters asking us to support a man.
We should all remember what women had to do, about one hundred years ago, to get the right to vote. Now when a woman is in the position to be president, here women are saying they will back the male of the race. Ms. Clinton is very capable of the task and does it every day.

Hillary continues to say she’s staying “in” so she can be a good role model for women — young and old — thereby demonstrating the importance of perseverance, standing up to detractors and overcoming adversity. I’ll buy that. A noble cause. At the same time, by trying to change the rules of the game after the die (or vote in Florida and Michigan) is cast, she sends a message to all voters, women and men alike, that the rules apply only to those who abide by them. That’s an oil I won’t buy.
If Hillary were a “man,” she would gracefully concede her loss and thereby set a fine example to women everywhere — an example most men learn at a young age: that losing gracefully is an admirable, albeit undesirable, outcome and that today’s loss can become the root of tomorrow’s victory.

I would like to see Hillary Clinton elected president. She has the ability to work aggressively on domestic issues and the strength to deal firmly abroad. She has the Washington connections to cope with complex politics, and she is a proven force in the Senate.Hillary is an educated woman who can bring intelligence to the country and exercise sound judgment when dealing with the complex challenges facing our country.
But it’s time for me to support Barack Obama. Obama has won the Democratic nomination. The process has focused on caucuses versus primaries, popular vote versus pledged delegates and Michigan and Florida. But Obama has won the nomination by following established guidelines for determining the Democratic nominee.
The game is over, and it is in our spirit to “play by the rules.”
As much as I would love to say “Madam President,” it’s time to step aside for Barack Obama.

With each passing day, it seems to me, Barack Obama’s comment back in January about Hillary Clinton’s likability — “You’re likable enough, Hillary” — grows in strategic brilliance.Jim Fitzpatrick

The climate-warming gameThe local environmental zealots believe the debate of climate warming is over, and those who question this issue are stupid and need to get on Al Gore’s climate-warming train. Unfortunately for us, the climate-warming issue is not about ensuring accurate science but is really about political power and money. If these extremists believe the current scientific models can accurately predict the climate and dire ramifications 40 years from now, why can’t the current scientific models accurately predict next week’s weather?
I have been a practicing professional engineer for more than 30 years, and I understand the limitations of models, especially those that do not accurately define and quantify all variables affecting the model’s development and related predictions. In regard to accurately understanding the complexities of our climate and developing a related model, engineers and scientists know enough to be dangerous. I believe:
