    VOICES 05/15/08

No pun intended, but in my opinion the city of Gladstone should not reap a windfall from the recent storm. We paid $108.50 for a permit to rebuild our roof. Shame on you, Gladstone.

    Gene Jordan

    Gladstone

If Archbishop Joseph Naumann is going to insert politics into this pulpit (5/10, A-1, “Sebelius draws a church leader’s rebuke”), then I think it is “high priest time” his church starts paying taxes. That goes for Rev. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, James Dobson and Pat Robertson. Pay up or shut up.

    Alan Murphy

    Cameron, Mo.

Thank you, Ben Nicks, for your letter of May 10 reminding us of how unfair and cruel many Americans were toward our servicemen who served in Vietnam, of which more than 50,000 made the ultimate sacrifice. We shall always remember them.

    Jack Taylor

I’ve got to tell you, Kenneth McGee has it right in the Saturday paper (5/10, Letters, “By rights, it’s Hillary”). I have never voted for a Republican in my life, but I will vote for a Republican this time if Obama is the Democratic nominee.

    Monna McLean

    Booneville, Mo.

Regarding Laura Scott’s column, “Voter ID laws have put lock on ballot box” (5/12, Opinion): Would Laura Scott accept me if I introduced myself as Mrs. McMeins? I can offer a utility bill in my wife’s name as proof of my identity.

    Larry McMeins

    Olathe
