    VOICES 05/01/08

We are told Barack Obama does not have the Catholic vote. He certainly has a lot of that vote. Catholics Sen. Claire McCaskill, Gov. Sebelius and Caroline Kennedy are supporters. And I’m a supporter, a Catholic and an older woman, another group he supposedly doesn’t have.

My, my, my. We black folks have come a long way. When did we become the elitists over a white woman who has a hundred and some million dollars?

Betty Banner of Manhattan, Kan., presents the slogan, “Prevent pregnancy — Keep your zipper up” (4/26, Letters). It doesn’t go far enough and is not all-inclusive. How about “Prevent pregnancy — keep your zipper up and your legs together”?

Wake up, Alta Stephens (4/28, Voices). Obama did win in Missouri. And furthermore, he has more integrity than the other candidates. He can and will win.

Something is seriously wrong with our system for selecting presidential candidates. John ranked low in his class at Annapolis, Hillary has an abnormal understanding of truth, and Barack is a misguided, naïve and inexperienced senator.
