Not content to limit his cloudy thinking, Huckabee then adopted nearly verbatim a plan put out by a group that has promoted stopping all immigration. Reject, deny, penalize, fine — that about sums up the nine points in Huckabee’s Secure America Plan. Not addressed is the salient point that Huckabee himself made eloquently nearly a year ago, that “our laws are clearly out of sync with the economic realities of our global marketplace.”
Honorable is the candidate willing to absorb new information on an issue and change a stance in good faith. Gutless is the candidate who alters his stand just to keep the barking dogs at bay. The result is a politician so paper-thin in his beliefs that he is willing to toss real people under the rolling wheels of the campaign bus. In this case, the victims are immigrants.
Unknown is who might be next. But stay tuned, the campaign trail is a long one and Huckabee appears to be shifting into high gear.
