    R eligion in America is more complex, difficult to describe and varied than anyone imagined. At least that’s what most people have concluded from the recently released second part of a huge survey of the American religious landscape by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

      Recently I was asked to read a book before its publication and offer a promotional comment. The author, eager to downplay differences among world religions because they seem to threaten world peace, assumed that I would like his emphasis on the universal truths God has embedded in all faiths.
