KC kids rockin’ the boat
Ten local rock ’n’ roll students have set sail on the trip of a lifetime: A cruise where they’ll get to perform alongside heavy metal giants Skid Row, Tessla, Queensryche and Ratt.
The All-Star House Band from the School of Rock in Parkville leaves today for the ShipRocked Cruise to Jamaica and the Grand Caymans.
The teens will perform in front of more than 2,000 screamin’ head-bangers who signed up for the musical vacation.
The kids and their parents threw pool parties and garage sales and put on 40 performances around town to raise money for the trip, says the school’s general manager Mark Ballard.
When they get back, the students will entertain even more folks at the Plaza Lighting Ceremony on Thanksgiving.
Rock on, kids!
Extortion attempt aims at Crawford
A German man has been charged with trying to extort $100,000 from Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber over a photo showing their daughter bound to a chair and gagged.
The picture was purportedly taken by the couple’s former nanny earlier this year and shows the girl, then 7, bound to a chair wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
The daughter told her parents, who did know about the photo, that the nanny took the picture when they were playing “cops and robbers,” according to an affidavit obtained by The Associated Press.
Edis Kayalar, 26, who has not yet been arrested, stole the photo from the nanny and repeatedly tried to get money from Crawford and Gerber starting in July, the document says.
He is charged with one count of extortion. If convicted, he could get two years in prison.
Glazer’s ‘Champion’
The re-release on DVD of Craig Glazer’s 1991 documentary about Muhammad Ali is taking on a life of its own.
The film, which Glazer believes to be Ali’s last meaningful interview, features conversations with five heavyweight champs: Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Ken Norton.
About 30 minutes of interviews from 20 years ago, never before seen, have been included in the new “enhanced” DVD set.
On the heels of a 3 1/2 -star review in USA Today, “Champions Forever: The Definitive Edition,” is featured in the December issue of Ring boxing magazine.
Glazer, owner of Stanford’s Comedy Club, says deals are in the works to get “Champions” a network airing and for him and project partner Ron Hamady to make another documentary about legendary Latin middleweights.
Taylor Swift: ‘Cereal’ winner
And speaking of talented kids …
Taylor Swift celebrated her win at the Country Music Awards with cereal.
“Just wrapped up a cereal party with my mom and dad at the kitchen table,” the 19-year-old country whiz kid Tweeted to her fans after the ceremony Wednesday. “What a night.”
In other Taylor news, the folks with “The Vampire Diaries” are dying to get their hands on her.
“I’m desperate to have Taylor come play a vampire,” says the TV show’s creator Kevin Williamson.
But after Taylor’s big night at the CMAs, he’s not sure about his chances.
“She’s too big for ‘Vampire Diaries’ now,” Williamson told E! News.
When Lisa Gutierrez isn’t partying down with a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios, she’s Stargazing among hopefully accurate celebrity news reports.
