James Woods: Seeking ‘justice’

James Woods was in a Rhode Island courtroom Monday for opening statements in a lawsuit he filed against a hospital where his younger brother died three years ago.

Woods claims that Kent Hospital was negligent in caring for his 49-year-old brother, Michael, who died of an apparent heart attack.

A hospital spokesperson did not return a call to The Associated Press seeking comment Friday; lawyers for both sides declined to comment.

Woods, though, told the AP that he is seeking “justice” for his brother, though he offered no details on what form he wants that “justice” to take.

A Broadway Spidey

Rocker Reeve Carney, 26, has been chosen to play Spider-Man on Broadway.

The lead singer of a band called Carney will play Peter Parker in “Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark,” which is slated to open next year at the Hilton Theatre.

The play will be directed by Julie Taymor, the creative force behind Broadway’s “The Lion King.”

Carney has apparently appeared in several films, including Taymor’s upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.”

(We don’t know who he is, either.)

Kid Rock gets a star

Dolly Parton, Charlie Daniels and Kid Rock walk into a bar.

Just kidding. (But wouldn’t that make the beginning of a great joke?)

Actually, all three of them were given stars Sunday on Nashville’s Music City Walk of Fame.

At the induction ceremony, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean joked how glad he was that Kid has been staying out of the news when he visits.

Kid was arrested in Nashville in 2005 on charges that he punched a disc jockey.

‘Curb’ comes to cable

TV Land and TV Guide Network are jointly acquiring the basic cable rights to show “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Larry David’s HBO comedy series.

“Curb” will hit TV Guide Network in February. TV Land expects to air the series as early as 2013.

The series is in its seventh season.

Dennis Hopper: ‘Everything’s good’

Prostate cancer couldn’t keep Dennis Hopper away from the Breeders’ Cup on Saturday. The 73-year-old actor/artist attended the horse race in Southern California in support of The V Foundation for Cancer Research. Of his experimental cancer treatment, Hopper said: “It has great promise. Everything’s good right now.”

Demi Moore: Call me ‘puma’

We think Demi Moore might be trying to start a trend here.

In the new W magazine, where Demi, 46, poses for some very sexy photos, she talks about being considered a “cougar” for being married to Ashton Kutcher, 31.

“I’m certainly not the first person to be in a relationship with a younger man, but somehow I was plucked out as a bit of a poster girl,” she says.

“I don’t know why that is. But I just kind of step back sometimes and say, ‘There is some reason, and what is it that I have to share in a positive way?’ ...I’d prefer to be called a puma.”

Lisa Gutierrez, a former puma herself, Stargazes among hopefully accurate reports of celebrity mayhem.
