St. Luke’s Health System has filed suit against Molina Healthcare, a national company that manages Medicaid plans, for failing to pay mental health claims for Medicaid-eligible patients at Crittenton Children’s Center.
The hospital system alleges that Molina did not meet its claim handling obligations at the system’s nonprofit behavioral treatment facility in 2010 and 2011, during which time Molina had a contract with Missouri to provide services for the state’s Medicaid managed care program. That contract was not renewed.
St. Luke’s asks for Molina to pay 127 unpaid Medicaid-related claims, damages, penalties and interest amounting to more than $1 million in all.
“Our ability to receive reimbursement for treatment provided is critical to our ability to continue to care for these patients,” said Janine Hron, Crittenton’s chief executive.
St. Luke’s officials said Molina had not responded to multiple written requests to explain why the Medicaid bills were unpaid.
