Soccer players with local ties to play for U.S. under-23 women’s team in Spain

Two former Kansas City-area high school players and several FC Kansas City players are headed to La Manga, Spain, to compete in the Six Nations Tournament for the United States U-23 Women’s National Team.

Forward Shea Groom, a Liberty High grad who plays for Texas A&M, joins midfielder Frances Silva, a Blue Valley North grad who was recently drafted by FC Kansas City, on the U.S. roster. The other FC Kansas City players chosen were midfielders Jenna Richmond and Erika Tymrak and defender Kasey Kallman.

The U.S. team is scheduled to play Japan on Saturday, Sweden on Monday and Norway on March 5.
