The Kansas City Star

The state of Kansas made a power move in the latest Associated Press top 25 rankings.

Kansas jumped three spots to No. 5 after two victories, while unbeaten Wichita State took over No. 2 in the poll after improving to 29-0.

That was just part of a major shakeup in the top 10 on Monday after former No. 1 Syracuse lost twice last week, including a thriller to Duke on Saturday. Florida moved up to No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time since 2006-07, the season the Gators won their second straight NCAA title.

Arizona moved up one spot to No. 3, while Syracuse fell to No. 4. Kansas was followed by Duke, Louisville, Villanova, Creighton and Saint Louis. For the Jayhawks, it was their highest ranking since rising to No. 2 on Nov. 25 after a 4-0 start.

No. 15 Iowa State and No. 24 Texas were the only other two Big 12 teams in the rankings. Oklahoma also received votes. No. 17 Kentucky joined Florida as the only other Southeastern Conference team in the poll.
