Staley High School
Winning artwork: Nina Bui, a senior, won first place in the Sixth District Congressional Art Contest.
Bailey Becvar, a senior, earned second place and an honorable mention in the contest.
More than 50 entries from high schools in the district were submitted. Bui’s work will be exhibted in the U.S. Capitol for a year.
Both students were presented awards at an art reception on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
National Center for Women and Information Technology
Computing awards: Northland students were among 16 Missouri and Kansas female high school students recognized for computing achievements and interests.
In an awards ceremony at Cerner Corp., Kayla Purvis, a junior from Platte County R-3 High School, was honored along with Liberty High School students Sarah Hartley and Isabelle Matthys, both juniors, and Sydney Scholes, a freshman.
Award recipients were selected based on their aspirations to strengthen the technology workforce, to cultivate innovation and to increase participation of women in information technology.
Park Hill School District
Broadcast journalists: The Student Television Network chose two Park Hill students to be presenters at the national conference in March.
From Park Hill High School, Jordan Elder, a sophomore, will introduce the keynote speaker. From Park Hill South, Shaefer Schuetz, a junior, will present at the closing ceremonies.
Winning writers: Mikala Petillo and Candice McCoy received 2014 Missouri Regional Scholastic Writing Awards.
Petillo earned the Gold Key award for a personal essay and will advance to national competition. McCoy was awarded an honorable mention. They will be recognized at the Language Arts Write to Learn conference on Feb. 28.
Their work was selected from 700 submissions statewide.
