Great Scott! Nike is reportedly working on a pair of sneakers with self-tying power laces like the ones Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly wore in “Back to the Future II.”

Nike’s been down this road before. In 2011 it produced 1,500 replicas of Marty McFly’s Nike Mags from the movie to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation which funds Parkinson’s Disease research.

Collectors swooned over the shoes, but they didn’t self-fasten like the movie kicks did. (They glowed, though.)

Nike designer Tinker Hatfield told Sole Collector at an event in New Orleans on Friday that self-tying power laces might not be just a thing of the distant future after all.

Hatfield was asked about the possibility of power laces. His response: "Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!"

Notice the significance there? The year 2015 was the year Marty and Doc visited in the movie and why Marty wore futuristic sneakers that automatically fastened themselves to his feet with “power laces!”

No word on what models will get the special lacing or how many will be produced.
