PB&J Restaurants Inc. recently picked up its Burnt End BBQ and moved it in Overland Park.

The barbecue, burgers and beer operation got its start in 2011 at 11240 W. 135th St.
But while its catering operation was strong there, the restaurant wasnt getting enough foot traffic. So the company moved it to one of the busiest intersections of the city 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
The Burnt End menu includes barbecue bowls such as the Pig Out Bowl (pulled pork, Carolina-style barbecue sauce, hickory pit beans, coleslaw, cornbread and fried onion strings), barbecue platters, barbecue sandwiches, specialty sandwiches such as the Smokehouse Reuben and chili cheese fries.
It also has expanded its offerings. Customers can now order custom barbecue bowls and custom steakburgers.
Our style of cooking is a little bit different than everyone else, said Stephen Smokey Schwartz, the pit master for Burnt End. We smoke it at least 16 hours and then pull it and serve it to order. We have some fantastic unique sauces made with fresh, local ingredients, same with the meats as much as we can. True to Kansas City and the Midwest region.
Schwartz had been executive chef and pit master at Fiorellas Jack Stack Barbecue for more than a decade. He has been with PB&J since 2005.
Burnt End BBQ has drink and food specials several days a week, including $1 canned beers from 4 p.m. to close on Fridays and family night on Sundays with four barbecue sandwiches or burgers, along with four servings of fries or sides, all for $25.
Fosters Grille and Traqueros Fresh Mexican Grill formerly operated in the building at 11831 Metcalf.
Along with Burnt End BBQ, PB&J runs four YaYas Euro Bistro operations and seven Red Robin Gourmet Burger restaurants. The company also is heavily focused on its catering operations. For a 10-person minimum order (and a request for at least 24-hour notice), it will deliver menu items from those restaurants to anywhere in the metro. Its chefs also can customize menu items for catered events.
PB&J Restaurants also plans to open two restaurants in Overland Park's new Prairiefire project at 135th Street and Nall Avenue. The operations Paradise Diner and Newport Grill will share a kitchen but have separate dining rooms in a first-floor, 7,500-square-foot space. They also will have their own patios. The two restaurants are scheduled to open May 1.
PB&J's first restaurant was a Paradise Diner that opened in Oak Park Mall in December 1987. The Prairiefire restaurant will be a 2014 version using mostly fresh, local ingredients.
Newport Grill, which also has a location in Wichita, specializes in seafood flown in fresh from all over the world six days a week, along with steak, chicken and pork.
Joe Wilcox, general manager of Newport Grill in Wichita, helped open Burnt End and will be general manager of the Prairiefire operations. He also was the longtime manager of Plaza III-The Steakhouse and had a stint with the former KC Masterpiece Barbecue & Grill.
