Chiefs offensive tackle Donald Stephenson admired Missouri defensive lineman Michael Sam for his decision to reveal he is gay.

“I think the kid is brave … doing it right before the draft,” said Stephenson, who just finished his second season with the Chiefs.

Stephenson said it would be OK with him if the Chiefs were to draft Sam, who would become the first openly gay active player in the NFL.

“I can’t speak for everybody else,” said Stephenson, “but if the kid can play football … I’m not the guy to judge anybody.

“I wish him the best … this has never happened before, so the only thing I can do is see how it works for him.”
