Though he doesn’t remember the liver transplant that saved his life when he was a baby, Luke Harbur doesn’t forget to wake up every day with joy in his heart.

Another day. A second chance.
A gift, not to be taken for granted.
Would that we all could remember to live this way. After all, if no accident or sudden illness takes away our tomorrow, we, too, have been given a second chance.
In this week’s cover story, you will read about Luke Harbur, his family and the extraordinary relationship they developed with the father of the young organ donor who gave Luke a chance at life so many years ago.
All have found a higher purpose in the trauma they shared. Their life mission now is to educate others about organ transplants.
Sangeeta Shastry has written a beautiful piece on this 18-year journey, shared now by fellow traveler Phil Duncan, who underwent a heart transplant in 2007. Some of you may remember him as a former mayor of Belton.
