The Cascone brothers are branching out.

The family has owned and operated a River Market restaurant since the mid-1950s.
Brothers Frank and George took over after their father, Sam Cascone, passed away in 1992.
But more and more restaurants are opening in the area or expanding, and that’s cutting into their sales at Cascone’s Grill.
“We are good. There’s just not enough in the kitty to pay us both,” said George Cascone.
Frank Cascone is close to signing a lease for a new Northland restaurant. It also would be a breakfast/lunch cafe similar to Cascone’s Grill and could be called Cascone’s Grill North.
“I don’t think there is anything up north like our place, not with the Italian flair,” said Frank Cascone.
George Cascone will continue at the River Market location at 15-17 E. Fifth St.
Described as “Italian cuisine meets American diner,” the restaurant offers items like biscuits and gravy, liver and onions, beef stew and pasta.
There’s also “The Big Sam” sandwich — Italian sausage, egg, cheese and hash browns on Italian toast — named after Sam Cascone.
But George wants to add items like blueberry pancakes and omelets.
