The man remained in a hospital Monday awaiting surgery for severe cuts to his fingers that he sustained while grabbing the knife in the attack, police said.
Police were called to the victim’s apartment in the 2400 block of Benton Boulevard about 12:50 a.m. Saturday. The victim said he and a woman he had just started dating were sitting on his couch when she accused him of stealing her father’s credit card. She then allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him. He grabbed the blade, and they struggled over the knife briefly before she fled, leaving the knife.
The victim told police the woman’s number was saved in his phone under “Sweet Lady.”
Just before 3 a.m., the woman arrived at a hospital with a large laceration to her leg. She was cut in the struggle at the apartment but had delayed treatment, police said. After doctors treated her, officers arrested her.
Jackson County prosecutors charged Stephania D. Creath, 44, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. She remained in jail Monday on $50,000 bond.
