The debate over the location of the presidential library for Barack Obama isn’t likely to end soon.

If it were in Hawaii, where Obama was born, it would be a first for that state. But Hawaii hardly needs another attraction for tourists.

If Obama’s library were in Illinois it would give greater access to African-Americans who would have an interest in studying the nation’s first black president. The library for President Abraham Lincoln is in Springfield, Ill.

It pulls in tourists from throughout the state and school groups in surrounding states. I went there from St. Louis on a field trip when I was in elementary school.

Obama’s presidential library would do well to be in Chicago, where it would be available to people and school groups throughout that area and Milwaukee.
