Keep those snow shovels handy.

Forecasters say the Kansas City area is on target for significant snowfall Tuesday. A winter storm watch is in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday morning until midnight Tuesday.

The national weather service says light snow will develop over eastern Kansas and western Missouri before daybreak Tuesday and spread eastward.

Estimates range from accumulations of 5 to 9 inches, with heavier snow amounts expected in northern Missouri.

Snow is possible beginning Monday night, and is expected to continue falling throughout the day Tuesday.

Forecasters say the chance of precipitation Tuesday is 100 percent. High temperatures Tuesday are expected to be in the middle 20s.
