Murder charge filed in Merriam child death

Updated: 2014-01-31T21:33:51Z

Prosecutors accused a 38-year-old Shawnee man Friday in the child abuse death of a 3-year-old Merriam girl on Jan. 11.

Kham Khamchanh faces charges of first-degree murder and child abuse. Bond was set at $1 million.

The victim allegedly was abused between Nov. 12 and Jan. 9, when Merriam police were called to investigate a medical emergency at a residence in the 9900 block of West 51st Terrace.

The injured girl was taken to a hospital where she died several days later, according to police.

Authorities did not released the child’s name and did not say the relationship between the child and Khamchanh.
