Kansas State’s baseball team, which is preparing to defend its Big 12 title this season, is ranked in the top 25 of three preseason polls.

The Wildcats are No. 21 in the USA Today coaches’ poll released Wednesday, a program best for the preseason. Two days earlier, K-State was chosen No. 22 by Baseball America and Perfect Game.

Kansas State is one of four Big 12 teams ranked in the coaches’ poll, trailing No. 18 Oklahoma State and ahead of No. 22 Texas and No. 23 TCU.

• Todd Butler will start his career as Wichita State baseball coach as the Missouri Valley Conference favorite.

Valley coaches gave the Shockers six first-place votes and 56 points to put them in first place in the conference’s preseason poll, just ahead of Missouri State’s 55 points and two first-place votes.

Defending regular-season champion Illinois State is third in the preseason poll, followed by new member Dallas Baptist.
