The Kansas City Star
A 26-year-old graduate of the Syracuse journalism program, McCullough is no stranger to covering Americas pastime in a highly competitive environment.
He was the lead Yankees beat writer in 2013 for the Newark Star-Ledger; before that, he spent several seasons as the Star-Ledgers Mets beat writer.
Some of McCulloughs more memorable recent work includes the Mets deal that brought former Royal Carlos Beltran back to New York in 2012; profiles of Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and Mets 2011 first-round draft pick Brandon Nimmo; and coverage of Mariano Riveras final game in pinstripes.
A Pennsylvania native, McCullough will be in Kansas City early next week getting the lay of the land before heading down to spring training with the Royals in Surprise, Ariz.
The club will hold its first full-squad workout on Feb. 20. Pitchers and catchers report Feb. 14; the rest of the squad reports Feb. 19.
The Royals open the 2014 regular season on the road Wednesday, April 2 at the Detroit Tigers. Their home opener is Friday, April 4 against the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.
