Kansas City police on Monday identified a man fatally shot outside a downtown nightclub early Sunday as Brandon Arledge, 24, of Kansas City.

Arledge and some friends tried to get into the club, Retro, at 1522 McGee Street about 3:25 a.m., but were denied entry because it was closing time. They encountered two other men in the parking lot and an argument erupted, police said. One of the two men then pulled a pistol and shot Arledge. His friends drove him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police did not say what prompted the argument.

It was the second fatal shooting outside the club since May 2012.
