Roberts says his campaign poll shows him far ahead of Wolf

Republican Sen. Pat Roberts says a poll conducted for his campaign shows him up by a zillion points over his GOP primary rival, Milton Wolf.

OK, that “zillion” is actually 54 points. But in politics, that’s a lot. A ton, in fact.

Wolf, a tea party guy, is a newcomer to politics, so it’s no surprise that he’s way behind. Roberts was first elected to Congress back in the early 1980s.

Wolf’s hope, as it is for tea party types everywhere, is that they catch fire at some point if the incumbent is somehow viewed as unacceptable. That fire is what incumbents like Roberts fear most.

Oh, Roberts’ campaign survey also determined that the senator is “easily the most popular elected official in Kansas among Republican voters.”

Take that, Gov. Sam Brownback and Sen. Jerry Moran.
