Add Sen. Claire McCaskill’s name to the list of politicians trying to save 80 federal jobs in Kansas City.

The workers now occupy space at the Bannister Federal Complex, which is closing. They provide parts, and repair sophisticated weather, computer and radar equipment for the National Weather Service.

The feds are trying to determine if the work, and the employees, should remain here after Bannister closes.

City Hall thinks the answer is yes, and now McCaskill is joining the effort.

“Kansas City is proud to host these important functions and looks forward to continuing to host them,” she said in a letter to the Commerce Dept.

The decision is expected sometime this spring.
