The Kansas City Star

— The latest Associated Press men’s basketball poll had a distinctively Big 12 feel.

Kansas led six Big 12 teams in the rankings after moving up seven spots in the poll to No. 8. The Jayhawks, 13-4 and 4-0 in the Big 12, returned to the top 10 for the first time since they were ranked No. 6 on Dec. 2.

Oklahoma State dropped two spots to No. 11 after losing to Kansas on Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse, while Iowa State fell to No. 16 after losing to Kansas and at Texas.

No. 22 Kansas State cracked the rankings again after a one-week break following consecutive victories over Oklahoma and West Virginia. The Wildcats, 14-4 and 4-1 in the Big 12, took over sole possession of second place in the conference behind KU.

No. 24 Baylor also took a tumble in the rankings after two losses, while Oklahoma came in at No. 25.

Unbeaten Wichita State, 19-0, held firm at No. 5 in the poll, while No. 1 Arizona and No. 2 Syracuse stayed in the top two slots. No. 3 Michigan State and No. 4 Villanova claimed the other two spots in the top five.

No. 6 Florida and No. 14 Kentucky were the only SEC teams in the top 25.
