Area restaurants and a grocery store cited for multiple health code violations. Most critical and priority violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture cited these operations for seven or more priority health code violations.
• Casa Agave, 1340 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kan., had 17 priority violations during a Jan. 15 routine inspection, including pans of refried beans held at improper temperatures (beans discarded).
We have fixed all the problems and we will try to have the best quality for the customers, said Jose Pablo Lopez, general manager.
• El Pirata, 1031 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., had 12 priority violations during a Jan. 15 routine inspection, including a spatula and a potato peeler with dried food debris but stored as clean.
I took care of all the violations, Josefina Saenz, co-owner.
• Gates Bar-B-Q, 1026 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., had seven priority violations during a Jan. 12 inspection following a complaint, including a food employee smoking across from the ice machine (employees are not allowed to smoke inside the food prep area).
They were corrected on-site, said George Gates, spokesman for the restaurant company.
• Hen House, 8120 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan., had nine priority violations during a Jan. 13 routine inspection, including raw fish thawing in a prep sink with no running water over the fish.
All the violations were corrected and procedures put in place so it wont happen again, said Phil Fowler, service manager.

The Kansas City Health Department also cited these operations for seven or more critical violations:
• Tanners Bar & Grill, 7425 Broadway, had nine critical violations during a Dec. 26 inspection, including mold on rolls on the cooks line, and slaw, ranch dressing, salsa and other prepared foods not discarded according to date (food discarded).
Everything was corrected, said Rodney Couey, manager.
• Waldo Pizza, 7433 Broadway, had 14 critical violations during a Jan. 14 inspection, including debris and lipstick on clean glasses in the bar area and mold on shelves of the walk-in cooler and keg lines in the keg coolers in the basement.
We are in the process of addressing all the issues. We appreciate the Health Departments help in keeping our restaurant running at its best, said Phil Bourne, owner.
