Pedestrian fatally struck in Platte County is identified

Platte County authorities have identified a 62-year-old woman killed early Sunday while walking south on Missouri 273 as Barbara Staton of Platte City.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicular accident just after 1 a.m. According to initial reports, Staton was struck while walking in the roadway, south of Missouri 45. Before the accident, witnesses said, Staton had been in downtown Weston and decided to walk home. Staton was intoxicated, according to authorities.

Before the accident, a passerby reported to emergency dispatchers that a woman was walking in the roadway. A vehicle struck Staton before deputies reached the area. She died at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
