The owner of downtown’s Grand Slam Liquors long saw a need for a downtown doughnut shop.

Now he’s opened one.

Joe’s Downtown Donuts & Coffee is at 641 Grand Blvd., by Grand Slam Liquors, a convenience store, gas station and liquor store. Joe Sacco owns both businesses and the buildings they operate in. He also owns Ray’s Donuts in the Northland.

The new shop sells a variety of donuts — blueberry, red velvet, cinnamon twist, chocolate iced, cherry, pumpkin and more — as well as bagels, muffins, coffee and tea, and coffee beans.

“We make our doughnuts fresh every day with a 100-year-old family recipe,” said Joe Sacco, son of the owner, who is managing the shop with his brothers, Sam and Tony, and his uncle Joe Brancato.

Hours are 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
