Kansas Sens. Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts, and Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt — all Republicans — voted Tuesday to continue the filibuster against a bill extending unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless.

In something of a surprise, though, the Senate voted to halt the filibuster by a 60-37 margin, the bare minimum. Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, was one of those voting to stop the talk-a-thon.
The Senate vote, while surprising, doesn’t mean the bill will become law. It must still pass the Senate, and then the House, where prospects are much cloudier.
