Students win anti-bullying contest, and other school notes

Plaza Middle School

Preventing bullying: Sixth-graders were named winners in a bullying prevention contest.

Winners in the bookmark category were Angela Mast, first place, and Valerie Rowlett, second; in the poem or song category, Destiny Culter, first, and Ian Flowers, second; and in the comic category, Chloe Traeder, first, and Brandon Cuda, second.

Liberty North High School

Dancers dazzle: The Golden Girls placed first in two categories at the Kansas City Classic Competition and received an award for most entertaining dance.

The dancers scored first in mix and in hip hop. They placed second in overall points in the Division 2 category.

Team members are Sydnee Arnold, Willow Arnold, Abbie Benner, Courtney Benner, Lindsey Buckholz, Lindsey Downey, Clarissa Lenger, Ellie MacDonald, Lindsay Marvine, Lexi McCann, Abby McGregor, Breanna Pinedo, Alayna Powell, Sydney Rice, Hayden Robertson, Rachel Shepherd, Jamee Slagle and Alex Tegeler.

Park Hill School District

Educators recognized: The Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals named Shawn Fitzmorris the Clay-Platte Distinguished Principal and Lee Heinerikson the Outstanding New Principal for 2013.

Fitzmorris is principal at Tiffany Ridge Elementary School and Heinerikson is principal at Chinn Elementary School.

They were selected based on excellence as elementary principals and on leadership in their profession. Fitzmorris is one of 12 principals across the state who advance to competition for Missouri Elementary Principal of the Year.

Martin Luther Academy

Open house: The school will be open to the public from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The open house will provide information about programs and enrollment information for kindergartners through eighth-graders. Tours also will be available of the private Christian school at 7112 N. Overland Drive in Kansas City, North.
